Always & Forever

It is impossible to write in words just how much you mean to me. When I first saw you, I was filled with love, joy, exhilaration, anxiety, panic, exhaustion and a million other things, all at once. You were so delicate; I was scared I might break you. You were so tiny; I was scared I might crush you.

I never knew you before, but since the day you arrived, I cannot live without you. You kept me awake for hours and yet I was never mad at you. You slept at odd hours, and I just looked at you in awe of your perfection. I fed you obediently and your burps filled me with a sense of achievement. I was, I am, and I will always be at your command night or day. And guess what, I will never trade you for anything else in the whole world.

From the moment you held my finger, you walked me through parenthood. When you played with my hair, I learnt tolerance. When you took your first step, I understood patience. When I kissed your boo-boos, I grasped compassion. When you spat out new foods, I comprehended perseverance.

I am not sure who you will become when you grow up. But I do know for sure, you were, you are, and you will be my Everything.

I wish you a wonderful life, filled with happiness, success and glory. However, there will be days when things don’t always go your way. You will meet failure, rejection and sadness. But you will persist and grow stronger.

Our world is beautiful. But life will be tough. In a world filled with anger and hatred, you will be kind and humble. In a world filled with temptation and greed, you will be brave and righteous. And when you want to take a rest, I will always be here for you. Always & forever.
